Juan had been dealing with resurrectionists

Resurrectionist was a 19th-century term for grave-robbers who sold corpses to medical institutions (though Ab Holt's gang was selling them from a medical institution). Lottie is apparently unaware of the full extent of the crimes Juan was complicit in; the murder of Frances Schaap might explain why he committed suicide rather than face an investigation.
